Job Summary

You are an experienced leader with 5+ years’ experience in road building or highway maintenance work, with particular focus on special projects including installation and repair of culverts, bridgework, and general civil work. As part of Ledcor’s Highway Maintenance operations, you will manage the project scope from the work identification phase through estimating/work-order issuance, execution, acceptance, and required internal work as well as client management. You will have both strong operating/supervision skills as well as the requisite coordination, management, and paperwork skills to operate autonomously. Extensive field work throughout Alberta is required.

• Provides oversight and technical support for project work including estimating, control of design and permitting consultants if appropriate.
• Provides project management support by securing pricing from vendors, developing internal cost estimates, schedules, managing client relations, subcontractor management, cost reporting and other related activities.
• Ensures that operations under his/her responsibility are well organized and coordinated and comply with client and Ledcor expectations.
• Supports the (sub) contract management / procurement process through the tendering and awarding of work or supply materials, assisting with the review, processing invoices and progress claims, and assisting with the review of documents and inquiries.
• Prepares purchase requisitions for approval and assists with procurement of materials and equipment.
• Ensures service contracts meets budget and timelines by reviewing work requirements, schedules and cost reports on a continuous basis.
• Executes, manages and coordinates all resource requirements for maintenance work including personnel, equipment, materials, etc.
• Promotes a culture of health, safety and environmental protection on the project by taking an active role in the implementation of the Ledcor Safety Program to achieve compliance of Ledcor HS&E standards, applicable OH&S Acts, regulations and codes.
• Maintains strong working relationships at job sites with client representatives, suppliers and labour force.
• Provides day to day guidance to field personnel. Assesses individual performance and provides developmental feedback and opportunities on an ongoing basis.
• Collaborates with colleagues within Ledcor’s Highway’s division and Ledcor Support Teams.
• Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol requirements.


• 5+ years of experience in highway maintenance or road building, with several years in a leadership capacity.
• Post-secondary education in Construction Management or Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• Contract Manager or Assistant Contract Manager experience (as defined by Alberta Transportation) would be an asset.
• Thorough and deep knowledge of road building and highway maintenance operational practices, processes and techniques.
• Ability to plan and manage a maintenance and service schedule.
• Understanding of highways maintenance contracts and specifications with the ability to ensure that they are complete.
• Strong understanding of cost management and budget forecasting.
• Proven track record of building successful teams, effectively motivating people and maintaining effective relationships with clients and consultants.
• Ability to anticipate stakeholder needs, investigate the underlying causes and identify short and long term solutions.
• Understands and presents complex ideas; anticipates potential objections and prepares case accordingly; influences and persuades others to adopt a point of view.
• Acts as a facilitator and mentor; moves the team forward in conflict situations
• Excellent problem solving, organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to manage changing priorities and possess a track record of successfully managing maintenance contracts and client relationships effectively.
• Excellent computer skills will be required (or developed), particularly in MS Word, Excel, Project.

• Extensive fieldwork and travel throughout Alberta is required
