Operations Accountant - Aviation (Contract)

You are an Operations Accountant with a minimum of 2-3 years’ experience working in a fast-paced, team oriented environment. Supporting both our fixed wing and rotary wing aviation operations, you will interact with operations staff and other Finance team members on a daily basis to coordinate time and pay, perform GL reconciliations, and assist with various finance projects. You will also play a key role during the month-end process. You have high attention to detail and take pride in ensuring timeliness, accuracy and completeness in your day to day responsibilities.
This is a 12 to 14-month maternity leave contract position.

Prepare month-end accruals to ensure timely and accurate recognition of expenditures
Work closely with accounts payable team and provide guidance related to expense coding
Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations, and coordinate with operations team to ensure prepayments and deposits are recognized and released in the appropriate period
Monitor compliance with procurement policy, and coordinate with operations and accounts payable team to ensure the proper cut-off of expenses, inventory, and fixed assets
Perform credit card and fuel reconciliations
Prepare and post journal entries into JD Edwards
Facilitate cheque and wire payments
Prepare biweekly payroll time entry, and serve as main point of contact for Corporate payroll, HR, and employees on payroll related matters
Maintain strong working relationships with vendors, operations staff, and other team members
Assist with ad-hoc finance projects and tasks
2 - 3 years’ experience in a similar full cycle accounting role, with a solid understanding of business operations
Experience in aviation would be an asset, but not required
Post-secondary degree in accounting
Knowledge of JD Edwards or similar large ERP is preferred
Proficient in MS Excel, Word, Outlook
Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with high attention to detail
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
Strong organizational skills, with a proven ability to multi-task, set priorities and meet tight deadlines
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate to various levels of business
Quick learner with flexibility to learn new tasks and deal with non-routine matters
