Job Summary
You're an Estimator with 3 - 5 years of experience working in multi-disciplinary commercial construction projects. You will perform quantity take offs, cost analysis, sub-trade negotiations, competitive bid management and document control. You will be involved in estimating activities which will include preparing hard bid, cost plus and design build estimates for projects.

Responsibilities
  • Provides clear direction to estimating team members and distributes workload to capitalize on individual and group strengths while ensuring balanced exposure to work experience and development opportunities
  • Supervises the solicitation of trades regarding bid invitations, pricing, addenda, and tender/bid closings
  • Supervises quantity take-offs for all areas of the estimate while ensuring the take-off is well notated for hand-over to the project team and includes safety and security requirements required by Ledcor policies and applicable legislation
  • Analyzes plans, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare bid estimates for projects, performs complete estimates on selected projects consisting of project site visit, quantity take-off, pricing, and presentation of the estimate for management review
  • Applies knowledge and skills through the handling of complex problems and shares expertise with the estimating team in an ongoing effort to develop, recommend revisions and implement procedures, standards, rules and regulations
  • Evaluates and presents or supports the presentation of estimate proposals
  • Manages all aspects of budgeting and bidding
  • Prepares conceptual estimates by interpreting historical data
  • Assists in the selection and maintenance of subcontractors within a database
  • Provides guidance for non-estimating personnel on their estimating related requirements
  • Provides technical training to subordinates
  • Researches and analyzes cost data for review and presentation to management
  • Interfaces and communicates effectively (written and oral) with other estimating staff, all levels of management, clients and Industry contacts; contacts and develops business relationships with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing within estimates
  • Manages bids and leads the team in estimating assignments
  • Attends major trade pre-award meetings as required
  • May perform other related duties as assigned


Requirements
  • 3 - 5 years estimating experience in a related industry in a variety of complex multidiscipline projects
  • Completion of post secondary education with a diploma or degree related to Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Estimating, Engineering or related education
  • Previous experience in an operations focused role would be an asset
  • Developed technical knowledge of modern construction practices, techniques and equipment
  • Understanding of construction documents and the ability to assess their completeness
  • Knowledge of construction costs and budgets, ability to develop project schedule
  • Strong computer background including experience with MS Office and related estimating software
  • Knowledge of BIM modeling
  • Ability to work effectively within a team
  • Assesses estimates for potential risk
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, project deadlines and locations
  • Ability to identify problems/issues, looks beyond the immediate problem to the wider implications and generates new solutions to complex problems
  • Creates and maintains formal networks internally and externally
  • Explains and presents complex ideas while anticipating potential challenges, prepares case accordingly to influence others
  • Ability to act as a facilitator and mentor, moves the team forward, may be a team leader or conduct performance management meetings for supporting or professional staff
  • Ability to close complex tenders/bids and proposals
  • Understanding of Ledcor's strategic position and outlook and translates that into estimate recommendations
  • Valid drivers' license
