Job Summary
As a Senior Estimator you will assume a leadership role overseeing and creating estimate packages in relation to quantity take offs, costing, sub trades solicitation and document control. As the Senior Estimator you will organize and implement estimating activities involved in preparing conceptual budgets, detailed estimates, cost studies, and competitive bids.

Responsibilities
  • Implements and maintains Ledcor systems and procedures in relation to estimating
  • Performs general administrative and recordkeeping functions
  • Develops complete estimates on selected projects consisting of project site visit, quantity take-off, pricing, and presentation of the estimate for management review
  • Completes quantity take-offs for all areas of the estimate while ensuring the take-off is well notated for hand-over to the project team and includes safety and security requirements required by Ledcor policies and applicable legislation
  • Analyzes plans, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare bid estimates for projects. Performs complete estimates on selected projects consisting of project site visit, quantity take-off, pricing, and presentation of the estimate for management review
  • Develops the schedule on which the estimate is based, requests input from the project team and various trades required
  • Applies knowledge and skills through the handling of complex problems and shares expertise with the bidding team in an ongoing effort to develop, recommend revisions and implement procedures, standards, rules and regulations
  • Evaluates and presents or supports the presentation of estimate proposals
  • Manages all aspects of the estimate
  • Prepares conceptual estimates by interpreting historical data
  • Assists in the selection and maintenance of subcontractors within a database
  • Provides guidance for non-estimating personnel on their estimating related requirements
  • Researches and analyzes cost data for review and presentation to management
  • Interfaces and communicates effectively (written and oral) with other estimating staff, all levels of management, clients and Industry contacts; contacts and develops business relationships with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing within estimates


Requirements
  • Completion of post secondary education with a diploma or degree related to Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Estimating, Engineering, Telecom or related education
  • 8+ years estimating and or related construction experience in outside plant/civil/telecommunications industries in a variety of complex multidiscipline projects
  • Extensive experience with HeavyBid (HCSS)
  • Civil or Outside Plant construction experience
  • Has developed technical knowledge of modern construction practices, techniques and equipment
  • Understanding of construction documents and the ability to assess their completeness
  • Knowledge of construction costs and budgets, ability to develop project schedule
  • Has acquired the ability to work effectively within a team
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, project deadlines and locations
  • Ability to identify problems/issues, looks beyond the immediate problem to the wider implications and generates new solutions to complex problems
  • Creates and maintains formal networks internally and externally
  • Explains and presents complex ideas while anticipating potential challenges, prepares case accordingly to influence others
  • Ability to act as a facilitator and mentor, moves the team forward, may be a team leader or conduct performance management meetings for support or professional staff
  • Ability to close complex tenders/bids and proposals
