Job Summary
As a Network Engineer, you will be responsible for understanding & analyzing DWDM technologies to ensure network design integrity & feasibility. You possess hands-on knowledge of switch & routing equipment capacity planning as well as the ability to develop and/or review both physical & logical network topology. You will play a key role in validating OSP fiber distance for loss budgeting and power requirements of equipment as well as working closely with Operations and Field Services to provide input in timely completion of projects.

Join our Ledcor Technical Services team in Lexington, KY! This position supports the Kentucky Wired project.

Responsibilities
  • Review & analyze network design solutions, which can include public and private telecommunications networks
  • Specify, evaluate, and recommend the procurement of telecommunications hardware/software products and services. Evaluations include technical and detailed economic analysis
  • Review site & Node specific T&TU and Migration MOP's to ensure client requirements are met
  • Manage network capacity and utilization based on engineering and technical guidelines established by engineering requirements of the network
  • Understands and can develop splicing tables
  • Develop and recommend strategies to address specific telecommunications, connectivity and related customer service needs
  • As the system expert, has a broad knowledge of all aspects of the assigned systems, including its design basis, vendor equipment, operating characteristics, and required maintenance
  • Assist in standardization for configuring customer and network equipment. Provision new circuits, routers, and other network equipment as required providing customer service
  • May perform other duties as assigned


Requirements
  • BA or BS degree highly desirable, or equivalent telecommunications experience
  • 3-5 years applicable experience
  • Thorough understanding of the fiber optic network and associated electronics
  • Knowledge of telecommunications network circuit design & network hierarchy
  • License or certificate in the operation and maintenance of Fujitsu and Juniper optical equipment is strongly preferred
  • Significant knowledge and experience of various telecom products (example: Infinera, Ciena, Cisco, Fujitsu, ALU, Nokia) as well as design alternatives
  • Demonstrated communications and negotiations skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate and provide technical direction to technical and non-technical personnel
  • A positive, "can-do" attitude and customer focused approach that will enable you to deal with challenging situations with integrity, empathy and sincerity
  • Must have and maintain a valid state driver's license and clear drivers abstract
  • Successful completion of pre-employment and random drug & alcohol requirements
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision and ability to be an integral member of a team


Work Conditions
  • Maybe required to travel away from home up to 20% of the time
  • Evening and weekend work may be required
  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the position which involves sitting, standing, bending, climbing, lifting (up to 75 pounds), working at heights, in confined spaces and in all types of weather conditions (rain, snow, heat etc.)
