Job Summary:

You are a seasoned Commercial/Contracts Manager with experience in contract administration and management of building and infrastructure projects. You will play a key role in negotiating, reviewing, interpreting and management of all construction contracts, subcontracts, insurance policies and legal documents with the objective of identifying and mitigating contract risks. You will serve as a liaison for contract related inquiries, concerns, and communications.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide commercial support to estimating and operations in drafting and responding to contract bids and proposals
  • Negotiate contract terms and conditions with various stakeholders including clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.  Review and draft agreements and legal documents
  • Support the implementation and management of contracts including prime and subcontracts, monitor contract performance, procurement activities, timelines, and close-out.  Liaise with project teams, legal counsel, and other stakeholders to resolve contract changes, disputes, claims and issues.
  • Ensures compliance with commercial requirements, regulatory standards and company policies
  • Conduct audits and assessments to identify areas of noncompliance and implement corrective actions.  Develop and maintain compliance procedures, guidelines for project teams and stakeholders
  • Analyze commercial risks and liabilities associated with contracts and implement risk mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to facilitate effective contract administration and management

Qualifications

  • 8 years+ of experience with construction contract documents, claim and litigations, drafting and negotiating
  • Completion of post-secondary education in civil engineering, supply chain management or business administration
  • Experience with different contract models including CM at Risk, Design Build, Lump Sum, T&M, P3
  • Understand commercial contracting and project risks in the construction industry
  • Ability to identify issues involving contract wording and details for commercial and business terms
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating and resolving contractual risks and recommending mitigation practices
  • Effective communication skills, confident interacting with key contacts in verbal, written and electronic form

Work Conditions

  • Office based role with travel to construction sites across the Greater Toronto Area up to 25% of the time required
