Job Summary:

As the Corporate Counsel, your primary role will involve offering legal assistance to Ledcor business groups or divisions across a spectrum of legal issues, primarily contract advice. Ensuring adherence to corporate contracting guidance and aligning with Ledcor's legal strategy will be key aspects of your responsibility. Additionally, you will collaborate with senior legal counsel and mid-level management, providing crucial support to advance the objectives of the Legal team. Your attention to detail will be pivotal in contributing to the overall success of the legal department.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and support to other Ledcor in house lawyers, and the business/business representatives in multiple jurisdictions. Interpret federal and provincial/state legislation and regulations relevant to the business
  • Identify and prioritize legal risks and alternative strategies in a variety of fields
  • Negotiate and prepare construction/commercial contracts and legal documents
  • Identify and communicate gaps in contract compliance relative to Ledcor’s Contractual Risk Management Policy
  • Assist/advise on claims within the business and/or support the transition of claims and litigation matters to in-house litigation counsel or external counsel
  • Provide research, advice and other legal assistance to other senior lawyers regarding a diverse range of legal issues

 

Qualifications:

  • At least 4 years of experience as a lawyer in house in a contracts role, a law firm or combination of in house and law firm experience
  • Bachelor's Degree (Canada) / Juris Doctor in Law
  • Member in good standing of a provincial law society
  • Preferred experience in construction contracts
  • Strong corporate/commercial legal skills, including excellent drafting, negotiation and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
  • Creativity and sound judgment
  • Ability to proactively identify key tasks and action items, meet tight deadlines and balance conflicting priorities
  • Active listener, effective communicator and composed under pressure
  • Quick learner with desire to increase knowledge of industry and market conditions

 

Work conditions:

  • This is a work from home position with the understanding that from time to time you may be required to attend the office or site as business needs require
