Summit Air is hiring a Supervisor, Ground Operations to join the team on a full-time permanent basis. In your new position you will report to the Manager, Cargo & Ground Operations, and be responsible for supervising and coordinating ground handling activities to ensure safe, efficient, and timely operations. This role involves managing personnel, coordinating with various departments, and ensuring compliance with aviation regulations and company standards.

Essential Responsibilities
Team Management (30%)
- Assign and direct staff as needed during daily operations ensuring coverage of arriving and departing aircraft
- Supervise day-to-day activities of Ramp Attendants, Cargo Agents, and Senior Cargo Agents ensuring team is following safe and aware of regulations, policies and procedures and monitors the handling and operating condition of all ramp equipment and all other tools required for ramp services
- Investigates and reports on ground equipment and aircraft ground incidents
- Ensures that all internal HS&E, quality and service standards are met; especially when handling dangerous goods, perishables, temperature-controlled cargo, live animals and other high risk / valuable cargo
- Accountable in training agents to ensure they are aware of appropriate regulations, ground operating procedures and company policies
Ground Operations (30%)
- Determines and ensures that aircraft are properly ground serviced and provisioned prior to departure including fueling, and loading/unloading cargo
- Ensures and manages that all manifest documentation is properly completed and maintained including cargo manifests, passenger manifests, and any other required documentation
- Monitors the handling and operating condition of all ramp equipment and all other tools required for ramp services, ensuring that they are in good working order and properly maintained
Reporting & Incident Management (20%)
- Completion of Daily Hazard Report, documenting any safety hazards or concerns observed during operations.
- Responsible for Tool Box Meeting Minutes, summarizing discussions and action items from safety meetings conduced with ground operations staff.
- Reporting on Ground Fuel Tank Quantities: recording and monitoring the levels of fuel in ground fuel tanks to ensure availability for aircraft servicing.
- Incident reports detailing any accidents, damage, or incidents involving ground equipment or aircraft during ground operations
- Maintenance reports documenting equipment inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards
Communication (20%)
- Manages and coordinates with Operations, Customer Service, Maintenance, and Dispatch departments to ensure a high level of communication, coordinated aircraft movements, and on-time departure performance. This includes sharing relevant information, coordinating schedules, and addressing any operational issues or concerns
- Oversees the coordination of aircraft load prioritization with Dispatch and Flight Operations crew, ensuring that cargo and baggage are loaded efficiently and according to flight schedules and priorities
- Communicates with external shipping agencies, vendors, other airlines, ground handlers, and airport authorities regarding ground operations activities. This involves coordinating logistics, sharing information on cargo handling, and addressing any operational or logistical issues that may arise
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in an operational role
- Prior airline experience preferred
- Ability to take control and make decisions, strong leadership skills
- Proficiency in using ground handling equipment, such as aircraft tugs, baggage loaders, and cargo handling equipment
- Knowledge of aviation regulations, safety standards, and best practices related to ground operations
- Familiarity with aircraft types and configurations, as well as aircraft loading and unloading procedures
- Proficiency in using computer systems and software applications for tracking, reporting, and managing ground operations activities
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Strong organizational skills and the ability prepare routine reports and correspondence
