Essential Responsibilities
- Ensure bridge maintenance operations are well organized, coordinated and executed in compliance with LHL, client and regulatory requirements, meeting established timeframes, budget and in accordance with performance specifications
- Manage and coordinate resource requirements for work including employees, equipment, materials, etc.
- Ensure reporting requirements are completed in accordance with performance milestones and targets
- Supervise, coach, and develop employees; manage employee performance and development issues including conducting performance reviews, employee discipline and identifying training needs
- Understand the CMS as a framework for quality management of business operations and service delivery
- Working on the structural steel and concrete components of bridges, and assist in bridge washing, cleaning, painting, sandblasting, sealing, grouting, placing structural concrete, etc.
- Operating and performing minor maintenance on equipment such as jackhammers, drills, chainsaws, tampers, sandblasters, and concrete vibrators
- Handling various toxic products such as epoxies, grouts, sealers, paints, thinners, and cleaners
- Conducting and documenting quality control inspections
- Ensuring work is performed to specifications and standards
- Maintaining Alberta Provincial Highway bridges for year-round operations
Qualifications
- Completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing is mandatory
- Must have and maintain a valid Class 5 license and provide a 3-year driver’s abstract. A Class 3 License is considered an asset
- 5+ years bridge or construction experience is preferred Knowledge of provincial and/or municipal highway maintenance specifications considered an asset
- Knowledge of highway maintenance operational practices, processes, and techniques
- Previous experience managing within a unionized environment is preferred
- Understanding of highways maintenance contracts with the ability to ensure that they are followed
- Strong understanding of cost management and budget forecasting
- Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Engineering and/or equivalent work experience is an asset
- Ability to work independently or as a team leader to complete the task at hand
- Experience working with and around heavy construction equipment
- Proficiency in working with a diverse range of new and salvaged materials to ensure optimal utilization
- Ability to work with a variety of hand and power tools and equipment used in bridge work
- Knowledge of accepted bridge construction practices and ability to read detailed engineering drawings
- Proficiency in the use of smart technologies for data recording and reporting
- Must be approachable, ethical, and accountable
Work Conditions
- Travel, shift work, on-call, and night shift required throughout operating months
- Work will be across Alberta on Provincial and Municipal highways
- Work at considerable heights, performing strenuous and physically demanding work in an outdoor setting in various weather conditions
