We are seeking an experienced Payroll Supervisor/Manager to oversee the US and Canadian payroll team. In this role you will play a crucial part in ensuring the accurate, complete, and timely processing of payroll in compliance with legislative requirements and year-end processing. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of US and Canadian payroll tax complexities and demonstrate the ability to train and guide the team effectively.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the weekly and bi-weekly Canadian and US Payroll process including managing of payment files
  • Guides and supervises the Canadian and US payroll team in meeting or exceeding performance management (i.e. payroll service delivery) outcomes and team objectives
  • Manages activities related to payroll accruals, ensuring reconciliation, reporting and analysis in coordination with the corporate finance team
  • Guides the year-end processes in collaboration with Senior Manager, Payroll & Accounts Payable and, ensures all legislative requirements regarding tax withholding, remittance and income reporting have been met
  • Accountable for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and reporting requirements
  • Adhere to all legislative requirements for payroll processing
  • Managing the allocation of workload and monitor payroll Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as a measure of how the payroll team is performing
  • Understand and apply US and Canadian payroll tax complexities
  • Accountable for overseeing team to ensure process discipline, meeting payroll deadlines, and guiding any continuous improvement activities
  • Train and guide the payroll team on relevant payroll tax regulations and processes
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements and implements best practices to streamline payroll operations

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years’ payroll experience, including supervising or being a team lead to payroll administrator teams
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills, including finding solutions on escalated and/or on complex payroll inquiries
  • Strong knowledge of payroll practices involving salaried, hourly, union and piece rate compensated employees. Able to interpret and explain payroll legislation
  • Experience in collaborating with accounting, finance, and human resources teams to ensure employees are paid on time, with accuracy and aligns with commitment to service delivery
  • Ability to maintain high levels of accuracy and strong attention to detail
  • Customer service-oriented with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong Working knowledge of Microsoft office products including excel and word
  • Proficiency with ERP accounting systems (JD Edwards would be an asset)
  • A team player with the ability to work independently

Work Environment:

  • This is a hybrid role involving both working from home and attending the office one to two days per week
