You are a safety-conscious Gradesperson with previous experience in underground utility or earthworks industry. You will be responsible for establishing construction line and grade for all utilities based on the stake layout provided by the surveyor and collaborating with the other crew members to complete work safely and efficiently, under the direction of the foreperson.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and maintain sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys to describe, certify, and assume liability for work performed.
  • Verifies the accuracy of survey date, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.
  • Reads and interprets construction drawings.
  • Reads and understands grade stakes.
  • Checks grades using GPS, lasers, string line, levels, and boning rods.
  • Reads underground utility locates and ensures safe digging practices are always being adhered to
  • The ability to operate various construction equipment is considered an asset.
  • Directs truck drivers to proper unloading location.
  • Signals equipment operators on grade requirements.
  • Accurately records all as built information into their field book, and transfers the information onto the project record drawings. 
  • Assists in restoring job sites back to their original state.
  • Maintains a healthy and safe work environment for the crew, the public, the customer, and Ledcor
  • Adheres to company policies, procedures, and directions regarding standards of workplace behaviour in completing job duties and assignments.
  • Valid Construction Safety Training System (CSTS2020) Certification.
  • Valid Ground Disturbance Certification.

Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of applicable work experience.
  • Capable of reading underground telecommunication plans and work maps.
  • Ability to incorporate health and safety concepts into work activities.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Clean drivers abstract.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug & alcohol requirements.

Work Conditions:

  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the position which involves sitting, standing, bending, climbing, lifting (up to 50 pounds), working at heights, in confined spaces and in all types of weather conditions (rain, snow, heat etc.).
  • Some travel will be required to site and/or other office locations.
  • Working outdoors in various weather conditions.
