Job Summary:

You are a Jr. Designer with a passion for fibre-optic communications infrastructure. You’re also interested in a role supporting the design and construction of passive optical networks. At Ledcor you will be an integral part of the MxU project team and will design GPON networks using a variety of tools. In this role you will collaborate with both design and construction team members, reporting to the MxU Design Lead. You will be working in both the office and field, assisting construction staff with safety and quality control, and ensuring that constructability issues are incorporated into the network designs.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Design GPON networks, both outside plant and multi-tenant structure inside plant
  • Cost estimating and materials forecasting
  • Provides support to field teams to answer project specification questions and ensure the highest quality product is being generated by the team
  • Work with field crews to identify opportunities to improve design standards, construction practices, and quality assurance procedures
  • Understand inside plant design principles, work order procedures, telecommunication industry standards and be in compliance with the latest revisions of any relevant Safety Codes, Electric Codes, customer practices and procedures, local and governmental jurisdiction and be in accordance with instructions supplied by customer
  • Work from customer drawings, company drawings, vendor drawings or specifications
  • Visit job sites on a regular basis to ensure specifications and client requirements are being met

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from a technical college or university program (preferably in one of the following areas: civil, electrical/telecommunications, drafting)
  • Up to 3 years’ experience working in telecommunications or related field
  • Organized and self-motivated
  • Strong computer skills with an aptitude for learning new programs; experience with AutoCAD and/or GIS, Visio, Excel and other MS Office applications would be an asset
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Maintain a valid provincial driver’s license (Class 5) and must provide a driver’s abstract annually
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening

Work Conditions:

  • This is a work from home position
  • Travel to project locations in BC & AB may be required
