Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Planning, designing and implementing virtualization systems to ensure the availability and reliability of the both host and guest systems
  • Maintaining up-to-date and detailed knowledge of the IT virtualization industry including: awareness of new or revised solutions, improved processes and monitoring
  • Ensure all systems are kept up to date with regular patching processes
  • Audit deployed virtualization systems to ensure compliance with policies as well as appropriate usage of the systems
  • Preventing data loss and service interruptions by researching new technologies
  • Review performance and log data on virtualization platforms to ensure proactive responses to issues
  • Perform capacity planning exercises to ensure that systems have an appropriate amount of capacity for future growth
  • Ensure that all processes relating to virtualization are documented and followed
  • Work with, manage and participate in the review and selection of external vendors 
  • Work closely with other members of the IS teams to ensure that their needs are met by the virtualization systems
  • Maintain and develop Linux based solutions as appropriate
  • Willingness to work occasionally outside of normal business hours including being on the on-call rotation
  • Perform proactive monitoring and reporting on all virtualized infrastructure to ensure optimal performance
  • May perform other related duties as assigned




  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent IT certifications including one or more of the following:  MCSE – Virtualization, VCAP5 or higher
  • 5+ years’ proven experience in IT operations role
  • Proven experience in managing, designing and implementing virtual environments
  • In-depth understanding of the virtualization platforms in use at Ledcor, including VMWare, Hyper-V and Citrix
  • Knowledge of storage, network and other underlying infrastructure involved with the virtualization platforms
  • Knowledge of the guest systems and applications running on the virtual environments
  • Demonstrated ability through analysis or monitoring and use of log data to ensure system performance and stability
  • In-depth knowledge of Windows Server operating systems including automation tools
  • Scripting abilities in PowerShell, Python and other languages
  • Proven ability to solve problems, determine appropriate actions and complete tasks 
  • Results oriented and self-motivated
  • Effective relationship management and communication skills, with demonstrated success dealing effectively with customers, vendors, peers and senior management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, accompanied by proven presentation skills in a corporate setting
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to embrace change
  • Experience in the development and implementation of standards, procedures and guidelines to support operational processes
  • Responsible to write technical procedures and documentation for solutions including operations, user guide, etc.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills


Work Conditions:

  • Office-based (Edmonton AB or Vancouver BC)
  • Scheduled on call support will be required
  • Travel to Ledcor remote offices/sites will be required
  • May be required to work outside of regular office hours
