Job Summary:

You are a knowledgeable and skilled individual with expert level knowledge in performing assessments on telecommunications and local distribution company overhead distribution systems. You are familiar with performing structural analysis using tools such as O-Calc, QuickPole and CAD to assess structural integrity and address non-conformances with standards. The Aerial Design Engineer will design and perform the required structural analysis of existing aerial outside plant infrastructure for the addition of proposed fiber network installations.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform structural assessments of pole line infrastructure according to project requirements, utility standards and industry best practices.
  • Create and review structural assessment drawings and make-ready analysis for submission to authorities.
  • Incorporating safety into all aspects of designs.
  • Make-ready analysis and recommendations for over-utilized pole assets.
  • Coordinate with fiber design leads to ensure scope of work has been adhered to.
  • Outside plant design and analysis of utility pole-line infrastructure (aerial applications).
  • Reading and interpreting outside plant records (data, maps).
  • Reading and interpreting fiber network design drawings.
  • Coordinate with field supervisor to ensure quality of field data is maintained for structural analysis.
  • Perform, review and quality control field surveys.
  • Perform quality assurance reviews of structural assessments, make-ready analysis, solutions and recommendations for over-utilized utility pole assets.


  • 5+ years Engineering experience in civil and/or structural discipline.
  • Prior experience working with utility companies is considered an asset
  • Design experience using structural tools and analysis software.
  • Experience in design and/or construction of outside plant telecommunication network infrastructure
