Job Summary:

You are a DOT Coordinator with experience in Transportation Safety Regulations, supporting a dynamic business in multiple geographic regions. As the DOT Coordinator, you are responsible for coordinating maintenance & repair activities, fuel management, and tracking information for commercial motor vehicles (DOT) across the USA.

Essential Responsibilities:

Deliver specialized knowledge, direction and guidance on transportation compliance:

  • Provide internal technical expertise and act as a training resource for staff
  • Explain legislation, policies, and procedures in a straightforward and professional manner
  • Prepare detailed information packages and presentations for review by management and/or staff on DOT compliance

Support the Ledcor DOT program by performing administrative duties required to ensure compliance:

  • Compile, examine, enter, review and monitor driver and equipment records: both physically and electronically
  • Fulfill permit and facility applications and ensure the information submitted satisfies safety and regulatory requirements. Complete annual permit books for each heavy-duty vehicle
  • Obtain and review the Safety Measurement System Profile (SMS). Properly identify, summarize and document the critical information including convictions, collisions, and CVSA inspections in relation to the seven BASICS
  • Obtain upon-hire, post on-road violation, and bi-annual motor vehicle records (MVRs) as required for all drivers employed. Review MVRs, report driver license issues and generate follow-up documentation for added monitoring as required
  • Acquire and retain acceptable computer knowledge and skills necessary to; prepare reports (MS Word; Excel); prepare presentations (MS Word, PowerPoint); research background information on drivers, vehicles and enter computerized data (JDE, ARI, Fleet Complete, BigRoad)

Improve and advance overall DOT Compliance:

  • Conduct on-going internal audits on safety, driver, hours of service and vehicle documentation
  • Identify where compliance issues are a concern. Follow-up on issues and resolve or make recommendations
  • Stay well informed on current legislation
  • Assist in the development and updating of documentation and processes (policies, procedures, education material, etc.)
  • Use creative thinking, problem solving, critical thinking and strategic thinking to improve processes and productivity

Establish and maintain positive relations with operations staff to influence and leverage safety related actions and decisions:

  • Take part in field operations when necessary
  • Develop and complete DOT related safety meetings and toolbox topics, as well as conduct DOT Spot Checks while on site


  • 2-5 years’ experience with DOT
  • Knowledge of mobile equipment
  • Experience with JDE, ARI, Fleet Complete, and/or BigRoad are an asset
  • Experience with reporting and tracking using Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, with an ability to research and solve problems
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and clean MVR
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug & alcohol requirements
