Job Summary:

You are a safety professional with experience supporting safety management system (SMS) related activities, ideally within the transportation industry. In the role of SMS Coordinator/Investigator, you will be responsible for monitoring safety reports, investigating incidents and accidents, assisting in development of loss control standards, and making recommendations to improve the safety of flight operations

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Review incoming daily reports in the SMS database, gather additional information in support of such reports, and provide analysis
  • Assist in investigation of near-misses, incidents and accidents
  • Assist in investigation, analysis, and identification of the cause or probable cause of hazards, incidents, and accidents and their respective corrective actions
  • Ensure timely feedback to employees on all submitted SMS reports
  • Communicate safety-related information and key learnings from investigations to employees and management, and disseminate safety- related information across the organization
  • Participate in safety meetings, preparing notes and agendas
  • Monitor and analyze trends, including data for the Company maintenance reliability program, as well as results of corrective and preventive actions
  • Maintain Hazard Registry Database
  • Identify potential hazards and carry out risk analyses
  • May perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years’ experience in a transportation-related safety role with a strong investigative component is an asset
  • Experience in aviation is an asset
  • Post-secondary education in Aviation Safety an asset
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Word and Excel
  • Previous experience with Safety Management Systems preferred
  • Knowledge of the following would be an asset:  aviation-related safety programs; safety standards applicable to aviation operations; accident causation and prevention theory; safety margins; risk management techniques; human error; HFACS; data analysis, HSE, and Labor Canada regluations
  • Good organizational, interpersonal, communication and writing skills
  • Above average problem solving and decision making skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all employee and Summit matters
  • Self-starter and ability to work with minimal supervision
